About Us

Kendal Medical Centre was established in Christchurch in 1992 and we have enjoyed being a part of the Burnside community for the last 24 years.

As a husband and wife team, it has been our mission to extend our 'family ' environment to the medical centre where we strive to make everyone feel welcome and cared for.

We are a small team of experienced and dedicated professionals who consider it to be a privilege to be involved in the healthcare of you and your family.

Dr Peter Sim

Peter graduated from Otago University in 1983. He enjoys all aspects of family medicine and also performs minor surgery. He holds postgraduate qualifications in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and has been a specialist General Practitioner for 25 years. Outside of work, Peter's passions are spending time with his family and lowering his golf handicap.

Dr Sharon Ashmore

Sharon qualified from Manchester University in 1984.
She enjoys all aspects of family medicine, has postgraduate qualifications in General Practice, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and has a special interest in Womens Health.
She is a GP advisor for Pegasus Health in areas such as Health Information Technology and membership.
When not at work or with her three children she is usually to be found on the squash court.

Receptionist Julie

We are fortunate to have had Julie at the forefront of our team since 1998.
Her kind and welcoming manner contribute to the friendly atmosphere of the medical centre.
With her long standing experience she is very able to help with booking of appointments, accounting and all general enquires.
Julie enjoys travelling around New Zealand with her husband Ross in their mobile home and is our local Labrador and dog training expert.

Practice Nurse Mel

BN, BCom (H&IM)

We are delighted to have Mel join our team. She has had extensive nursing experience, predominately in  paediatrics and is excited to be broadening her horizons and caring for the community in which she lives. Her bubbly and enthusiastic nature make a very positive contribution to the boyant environment at the medical centre.
When not at work she enjoys spending time with her family and two young children.

Practice Manager Karen

We are excited to welcome Karen as the newest member of our team.
Having recently relocated from Australia, Karen brings a wealth of reception and practice management experience to the centre and her professional, caring attitude will ensure patients receive a warm welcome to the practice.
Karen is looking forward to discovering all that New Zealand has to offer with her husband Steve.

Pegasus Health

We are proud members of Pegasus Health, which is a PHO (Primary Health Organisation), originally formed by the GPs of Christchurch to champion the best use of resources, in order to look after the health of the people of Canterbury. Pegasus is now world renowned for its innovation and for improving the delivery of health care to the population it serves.
As members of Pegasus Health we are able to access and offer more subsidised health services to our patients, such as free sexual health consultations, counselling, quit smoking programs etc.

Digitalis - The foxglove

A British Physician named William Wuthering published his study of the foxglove plant in 1785. An extract from the plant, known as digitalis, was the first ever heart medicine. It was administered to treat heart failure and palpitations and is still used to this day but more commonly known as digoxin.
The stained glass windows in the surgery depict this plant which is why we have chosen to feature it on this website.
